Inverter/Back Up batteries
An inverter which will convert electricty from direct to alternate is installed with back up batteries. The back up batteries get charged either from the grid or from solar panels for use in times of power outages or at night if it is a solar system. It is better to install lithium batteries, they last much longer than say the gel batteries.
Generators
Its typically a stand by option in the event of a power outage, generators can either be powered by Fuel or gas. It becomes very expensive if the period of the outages is long, the fuel or gas are direct costs that are incurred per hour, the more the hours the more costly it becomes. Please note that generators come with internal combustion engine which will need to be serviced from time to time.
Solar Panels
During sunny days the solar panels will be a source of energy, they generate direct electricity which goes through the inverter which will convert it to alternate current. During the day you will use the solat energy, the excess energy will be stored in the batteries for use later when the sun sets.
Although it is still expensive to install a solar system, in the longer term you will get a very good return given the astronomical increases that we have been experiencing in the current years, let alone the inconsistent power supply.
With the loadshedding being experienced in the country currently, back up power has become a necessity.
